We are a huge taco-loving family, so it’s no surprise that this taco pie recipe would be a winner!  I saw my old recipe for it a few weeks ago and made it on a whim this week and was so happy with how it turned out!  We all loved it and I hope you and yours loves it too!  You can watch me make this on Instagram by clicking the highlight “Taco Pie”.

Easy Taco Pie
By: Alison Howard
Yield: 6-8 servings

1 lb ground beef, browned
1/2 onion, chopped
1 4 oz can diced green chiles (we used mild, but use whatever you want)
2 cloves garlic, minced
Taco seasoning (my recipe is below)
6-7 chicken eggs, beaten
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1 cup cheddar cheese
1/2 cup Monterey jack cheese

Taco seasoning:

1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp Mexican oregano (regular oregano)
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  In a skillet, brown the ground beef almost completely and add in the onions.  Once onions are softened and translucent add in the diced green chilies and garlic.
  2. Add the taco seasoning, mix well. Remove meat from the heat and allow to cool a bit.  Put meat mixture in a glass pie dish. Make sure meat is level, but don’t pack it down.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together eggs and heavy whipping cream.  Pour over meat mixture.  Spread cheese on top evenly and bake for about 45 minutes or until the egg has puffed up and set and the color is golden brown.

I served this with guacamole, sour cream, fresh tomatoes, and cilantro.  Enjoy!
