Full disclosure: I am not a smoothie bowl kind of person.  I’m not even a smoothie-without-the-bowl kind of person.  It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s that I don’t like how they’ve been portrayed: as a healthy food option.  The truth is, they’re loaded with sugar and unnecessary calories, so I rarely eat them.   As someone who has studied food nutrition pretty extensively, I have no idea how they found themselves included in the healthy-foods category instead of the dessert category, because that’s totally what they are.  Desserts with fruit. Even if the ingredients are fruit, greek yogurt, and honey, your blood sugar is still going to spike from all the sugar.  But rant aside, my teen daughter, who adores smoothies, begged me to make her one and so I did.  For dessert. 😉
